LEARNING WITH EYESHOT

The Eyeshot Academy

Education as a continuation of how Eyeshot reads photography, in three open formats.

WHY ACADEMY

Teaching as part of publishing

Eyeshot has always considered education part of what it means to publish photography. A magazine, a book, an Open Call: each one is already a form of teaching, a way of putting one image next to another and asking the reader to look. The Academy formalises that practice into three open formats: professional reviews, intensive workshops, and public conversations. Each format starts from the same editorial position the publications hold, and brings it close to the photographer.

PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS

One-to-one with the editor

Professional Reviews are written by Marco Savarese, Editor-in-Chief and founder of Eyeshot. The reading you receive comes from the same editorial practice that publishes around 75 books, 25 magazines (each one a curated reading of 70 to 150 photographers), four editions of the Open Call evaluated by international juries, and a daily Editor's Note running since 2025. That body of work is the credential, and the review you book draws on it directly.

Each review is a single sustained reading of your work. You can submit either a series of between five and seven photographs, or three single images. The review is written in English or Italian, with other languages available through translation, and arrives in your inbox as a written document, signed, within two to three weeks of receipt.

Reviews are not technical critiques or generic encouragement. They are editorial: what a publisher reads in your work, what holds attention, where the project might go, what is missing. Honest, not superficial. Read and written by Marco. Not delegated, not generated.

100€ per review. The reading desk is open. Each week only a few slots are read, one editor at a time, so reviews are taken in the order they arrive. Book through the shop; once payment is confirmed, you receive a private link to upload your work.

WORKSHOPS

A wider international program coming

Eyeshot workshops are intensive, in-person sessions led by international tutors selected for the rigour of their practice. Three editions have taken place so far, with Richard Kalvar, Gustavo Minas, and Vineet Vohra, each one sold out. The next chapter is wider in scope: a program of international guest tutors arriving across the coming seasons, designed to expand the conversation between photographers, editors, and audiences. Dates and names will be announced through the newsletter as each session opens for registration.

TALKS & EVENTS

Public conversations, in person

Talks and Events are the most recent format the Academy is opening: public conversations, book launches, panels, and meetings around photography, hosted in venues and at festivals. The program is still taking shape. Dates and locations land first in the newsletter, then everywhere else. Subscribing is the most direct way to know when a talk or event is happening in your city, or when one is opened to a wider audience online.

The tool you have today is almost always enough. The library you have today almost never is.
