The Photographer

Francesco Sembolini

Born in 1972, Francesco Semboliniis an Italian street photographer based in Perugia, Italy. He is known for his humorous style. Often the principal subject of the photographs of Francesco Sembolini is colour itself, in planes, in shapes, in sections carefully composed within the photographic rectangle.

The monograph

“Almost Real”

While created in two dimensions, Sembolini’s images represent the three dimensions of reality with intense graphic awareness. “Almost Real” emphasizes minimal lines illuminated in dark spaces. Even then the colours, though reduced in number, are no less important to the success of the photograph. Sembolini’s pictures look more like paintings than photographs.

In details

The photographic journey

Often Sembolini’s images speak to one of the underlying principles of photography itself. While he makes his photographs directly from reality, they are not reality. The careful placement of the objects of life within a rectangle creates a new reality: it becomes fiction, a story.

The photographer's vision

“I love to build my own reality by apposition of elements, colours, people, creating aesthetic, graphics, humorous and crazy pictures.”
