Here is an overview of the key stages of the competition:

• June 15, 2023 – August 14, 2023: Progressive publication of the best works on Eyeshot’s social media during the competition.
• August 14, 2023: Closing of the Eyeshot Open Call 2023 competition. Final deadline for photo submission.

• November 3, 2023 – January 28, 2024: Exhibition of the winning and finalist works at the Fotografici Warehouses in Naples, Italy.

Following this timeline, participants can prepare and submit their photos by the final deadline of August 14, 2023. The winners will then be announced in September 2023, with the exhibition of the works in the period from November 2023 to January 2024 at the Fotografici Warehouses in Naples. The images submitted to the contest should meet the following requirements: for the application phase, the photos must have a minimum size of 2500 pixels on the longest side, a resolution of 72 dpi, an sRGB color profile, and must not exceed 5MB per single photo. To ensure the fairness of the contest, images with watermarks are not accepted. If your photo is selected for the final phase and thus will be printed for the photo exhibition, you will be asked to provide an image with a resolution of 300 dpi and an Adobe RGB color profile.

Yes, students globally are invited to participate in the contest for free, provided they present valid proof of their student status at the time of registration. Additionally, those who are prevented from participating in the contest due to severe financial hardship may request an exemption from the participation fee.

You can submit your application online by filling out the appropriate registration form available on our website. If you are a student, you will need to provide documentation to verify your student status. If you are facing severe financial difficulties, you will need to fill out the specific registration form stating the reasons for your request. After you have filled out and submitted the online form, our Eyeshot team will review your request. Regardless of the type of request, you will receive an email with instructions on how to participate in the contest within 48 hours of the request.

The contest includes two categories of participation: Single photo and Series. Each participant can submit works for both categories.

• What does the “Single” category mean? In this category, we’re looking for photographs that portray the human experience in unique ways. The images can be completely different from each other and don’t necessarily need to follow a specific theme or style of photography. For example, one photo could portray a moment of quiet and reflection in a city park, while another could capture the energy and movement of a political demonstration. Both these images are valid in the Single category because they depict different aspects of the human experience, despite being very different from each other.
• What does the “Series” category mean? The Series category refers to sets of images that share a common theme or subject. These images must be linked in some way, through a common theme, subject, story, or photographic technique. For example, a participant might submit a series of photographs documenting everyday life in a small village, or a series of portraits exploring the diversity of human expressions. In both cases, the individual photos within the series are connected by a common theme and tell a larger story when viewed together.
  In each Series submission, you should include a collection of a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 15 photographs.

The photos submitted to the Eyeshot Open Call 2023 contest must fall into one of the following categories:

1. Street Photography: This category concerns capturing everyday life in public spaces, with particular attention to human interactions, everyday life scenes, and authentic portraits.
2. Documentary Photography: This category focuses on documenting specific subjects or events, with the aim of providing a deep understanding and accurate representation of social, political, cultural, religious, or environmental themes.
3. Environmental Portraits: This category involves portraits of individuals or groups in their natural environment, showing the relationship between the human being and the context in which they find themselves, such as their home, workplace, or a public place.
4. Reportage: This category includes a series of images that tell a story or document an event, highlighting the interaction between the people involved and their context.
5. Event Photography: This category captures significant moments during public or private events, such as protests, festivals, ceremonies, or sports events, highlighting the humanity involved and the atmosphere of the event.

These categories offer a variety of approaches and insights for exploring being human in its various facets and allow participants to present their work in a way that is specific and relevant to human experiences.

The winning and finalist works will have the opportunity to be exhibited for a period of three months at the prestigious Magazzini Fotografici in Naples, located in the vibrant heart of the city’s historic center. This unique location is an integral part of UNESCO’s heritage, as Naples itself is a World Heritage city. The urban and captivating setting of the Magazzini Fotografici makes it the perfect place to celebrate the diversity of human experience through the art of street and documentary photography. Your work will have the opportunity to be displayed in a setting of great cultural and historical value, enriching the visual dialogue on being human.

During the exhibition, a series of exciting events are planned, including debates, workshops, and much more. These events offer the opportunity to engage and stimulate the photographic community, as well as to participate in in-depth discussions and learn from the experiences of international guests in the field of street and documentary photography.
