STREET PHOTOGRAHS FROM AUSTRALIA AND ELSEWHERE

Gerry Orkin is not sure he has a style. He is only looking for eccentricity, intimacy, humour, ambiguity and mystery. The photographs included in this series were taken in Australia, Europe, India and Myanmar and reflect an important aspect of who he is and how he sees the world. He doesn’t care that the gold standard is to make a coherent body of work that speaks to a singular vision, because he is interested in too many things and can’t do without everything. Therefore, he shoots whatever he likes. And we approve it.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Gerry Orkin lives in a small coastal community south of Sydney, Australia. Earlier in his career, he worked as a documentary photographer in academia and, in his spare time, he was also involved in community-based social documentary photography.
After nearly 30 years of absence, he returned to photography in 2012. He would like to develop community and documentary projects again, but until that is possible, street photography is a complicated, challenging and sufficiently satisfying alternative.
