“Real People”

Over the last few years, while working on his “Pier to Pier” project, Giedo van der Zwan discovered a deepening passion for street photography. This medium allowed him to capture unusual scenes and striking moments of human life.

As his artistic journey progressed, van der Zwan felt compelled to do more than merely record these unique instances. He sought to add a richer dimension to his images, transcending the technical aspects of photography to create a more profound creative experience.

Beyond the Lens: Real People in Unstaged Situations

In his quest for deeper meaning, the photographer sought to make the subjects almost tangible to the viewers, allowing them to become immersed in the scene.

To achieve this level of intimacy and connection, in the series “Real People” Giedo van der Zwan adopts a consistent technique and camera setup – shooting up close with a wide-angle lens and flash – capturing the raw emotions of real people in unstaged situations.
