Michele Liberti

With its vibrant colours and lively subjects, «Naples in Jazz» is a street photography series based on freezing the moment at just the right time.
A jam session is an informal musical process where musicians play improvised solos and vamp on tunes, songs and chord progressions. Similarly, what we see happening in this series is a re-enactment of a typical jam session. Energetic composition and pulsing dynamism gather in every photograph to release the vitality spreading through subjects and locations.
Yet, the improvisation, the candid frames, are not to be mistaken with fortuity nor luck. Mastering the art of spontaneous creation is a long process, for which the Jazz is an excellent example. The author wanted to associate Jazz with his photography style, crafting a wise correlation between the two. «Naples in Jazz» is a visual research that does not follow any rule, by mastering them all.

Michele Liberti is a self-taught Italian photographer based in Naples, Italy. Since he was a child, the art of photography always had a specific charm on him. During the years he managed to buy a proper camera, and he then realised it was the right way to show others the beauty he witnessed along the streets. He recalls long walks on his own, wandering around the city while taking pictures of pretty much everything.
In 2009, after a twenty-year break, he approached photography once again, and has pursued it since.
His pictures have been exhibited in several parts of the world. He took part in the Italian-German project “VIA, from Hamburg to Palermo,” with the final exhibition in Rome, Italy in 2016. In 2019 he was a finalist in the Italian Street Photo Festival held in Rome, Italy, and in 2020 he was the winner in the series category in the Istanbul Street Photo Festival.
