Visible on Said’s leg are scars from wounds sustained on a previous mission; he returned to the front lines after only a few months. At the foot of his bed lie his ever-ready rifle, boots, and battle equipment.

This photo was taken at the funeral of the 16 year old roma Kostas Fragoulis, who was fatally shot by a policeman on December 5, 2022. The 16-year-old reportedly sped out of a petrol station without paying a €20 fuel bill. Officers from a police motorcycle patrol chased the boy who was driving a pickup truck and shot him in the head. The murder led to violent riots in both Thessaloniki and Athens, as communities rallied against police brutality and injustice.

This is Bengal’s last surviving wooden boat, a majestic relic now nearly extinct. Preserved by the Friendship NGO, the effort to maintain this 93-foot vessel in Bangladesh is a monumental task. It’s a collaborative endeavor that requires 80 people to pile on the left side for repairs, bypassing the usual need for dry land. The boat stands under a towering bamboo scaffold, a unique method in Bengal. Once elevated, carpenters painstakingly replace rotten wood, breathing new life into this vanishing piece of heritage. The preservation of this Malar boat involves a multitude of intricate steps and processes.
