Eyeshot Book

David Graham’s “In Plain Sight”

“In Plain Sight” is the twelfth monograph by David Graham, an internationally recognized American photographer, with a foreword by W.M. Hunt. 123 photographs tell tales from the road, like postcards from an unusual American road trip.

Graham’s lens explores the space between private expression and public vulgarity, foreshadowing a future in which commercial billboards and handcrafted quilts coexist in the same museum. Graham’s work is rooted in the element of juxtaposition, interpretation, and the embrace of the everyday American experience.

“In Plain Sight” comes in two different limited-editions: White Edition and Black Edition. The Black Edition features one unique Fine Art Photograph (30×20 cm) that has never been printed for sales before, and exclusively available through the purchasing of the book only.

The Photographer

David Graham

David Graham is an American artist-photographer. His subject is the American cultural landscape. A tireless traveler and a natural-born storyteller, his work is a jubilant celebration of freedom of expression, seeking out those Americans who are serious about the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

The Monograph

“In Plain Sight”

“In Plain Sight” captures the colorful, sometimes surreal, and often bizarre in the thoroughly American landscape. Graham seeks out subjects that celebrate our singular freedom of expression in colorful roadside attractions and general oddities. He has a wicked and hearty sense of humor. As W.M. Hunt celebrates them, these works are, for the most part, short tales, postcards home from the road.

The Photographer’s Vision

“When I started shooting the 8×10, it was so slow and so expensive that I wanted to get the most out of it, so I loaded in detail, color, subject, historical references, and humor. I wanted everything. I am always looking for absurdity in any situation, photographic or otherwise. I try and have elements of joy and melancholy in all the pictures”.
