Max Sturgeon’s “Of a Different Stripe”

54,90229,00

“Of a Different Stripe” is the second book by American photographer and filmmaker Max Sturgeon, with an introduction by Vineet Vohra. Through contrast and juxtaposition, over 120 images show how two cultures meet halfway and become aware of one another.

Max Sturgeon’s photographs attempt to capture the vividness of life in the Bay of Bengal region, and his images portray the richness of colours as well as convey actions and meanings. Not one of the photos was staged or posed: in a land of countless Gods and languages, the streets are theatre, and the performances one of a kind. Chaotic beauty at its finest.

“Of a Different Stripe” comes in two different limited-editions: White Edition and Black Edition. The Black Edition features one unique Fine Art Photograph (30×20 cm) that has never been printed for sales before, and exclusively available through the purchasing of the book only.

The Monograph

“Of a Different Stripe”

To outsiders, the region around the Bay of Bengal can best be described as overwhelming. Exotic to even the most experienced traveller it is an assault on the senses: the noise, the smells, the vibrant colours, the seemingly never-ending crowds pushing against you. For many, it can become too much, but the chaos is also what makes it so special and unique. Life in the streets can be felt and seen like nowhere else—so alive and vibrant.

The Photographer’s Vision

“I wanted to be close to people so you feel the density of the population and a different take on the Bay of Bengal region. I wanted the viewers to feel what it was truly like to be in India or Bangladesh. To feel the chaos”.
