How to read, edit, and understand photography

The Other Side of the Table is not a manual on how to take photographs, but a book about how photographs are read, selected, sequenced, printed, and understood. Written from the perspective of editor and founder of Eyeshot, Marco Savarese, it follows the full path from seeing to authorship, revealing how distance, light, ethics, editing, and presentation shape a body of work. The book grows out of Marco Savarese’s Editor’s Notes series, originally shared with the Eyeshot community on Instagram, now expanded and reworked alongside new chapters and previously unpublished texts. With photographs by Ed Kashi, it invites photographers to move beyond rules and intuition, and to build a clearer, more independent way of reading their own work.

After 30 September, this limited edition will never be available again.

Marco Savarese is the founder and editor-in-chief of Eyeshot, an independent, eco-conscious publishing house based in Italy dedicated to street and documentary photography. Since 2018 he has edited and produced Eyeshot’s magazines and limited-edition books, shipped to readers worldwide, and created its annual Open Call celebrating emerging and established voices in the genre. He works closely with photographers on the reading, editing, sequencing, and printing of their work, and writes the Editor’s Notes series shared with the Eyeshot community. The Other Side of the Table gathers and expands that ongoing reflection on how photographs are read, selected, and understood.
