Tracing Roots, Embracing Identity

“Tierra Santa”: A Decade of Discovery

Documenting nearly a decade of his life, this book encapsulates moments of growth, introspection, and artistic maturation. Each photograph is a chapter in Ibañze’s life, capturing his journey back to his cultural roots and the evolution of his identity as a photographer.

The book is a homage to those who celebrate their heritage, a reflection on migration and memory, and an invitation to partake in a collective act of remembrance and shaping the future

Through the ‘Empty Spain’: A Journey of Rediscovery, Connection, and Cultural Immersion

In TIERRA SANTA, Guille Ibañez embarks on a poignant photographic odyssey, weaving a narrative that bridges cultures and continents. This compelling collection marks his journey of rediscovery, tracing his steps back to the roots he left behind over a decade ago. Living away from Spain, Ibañez’s lens becomes a tool for exploring identity and belonging, capturing the essence of his homeland with each frame.

His journey delves beyond the familiar, taking readers off the beaten path to explore the uncharted terrains of ‘Empty Spain.’ Avoiding the well-trodden sights of major cities, Ibañez turns his focus to the hidden gems of small towns and villages, unveiling the abandoned yet resilient rural world. His photographs go beyond the surface, delving into the heart of Spanish culture, where every image speaks a language of emotion and heritage.

Guille Ibañez uses his camera not just as a tool to capture moments, but as a passport to immerse himself in the lives and stories of people he encounters. This collection showcases how photography facilitates connections, opening doors to engaging conversations, unexpected relationships, and the exploration of unknown territories.

The Photographer

Guille Ibañez

Born in Madrid (Spain), but drawn to Manchester (UK) where he now lives, Guille Ibañez’s photography focuses on culture, tradition and human interaction. Originally trained as a cinematographer, he combines professional film and video work skills with his passion for photography. The tension between the moving and the still image goes to the heart of Guille’s work, with his photographs often referred to as being like frames from a film.

Religion and human faith play a major part in his work, which has been part of many festivals around Europe and America and he has been a finalist at prestigious festivals such as MIFA (Moscow International Foto) and BSPF (Brussels Street Photography Festival).

The Monograph

“Tierra Santa”: Beyond the Surface

TIERRA SANTA is a testament to the power of photography in transcending verbal communication, connecting us to places and people with a depth that words alone cannot convey.

Guille Ibañez’s work is thus not just a collection of photographs; it is a bridge that connects the past and the present, the local and the global, the seen and the unseen aspects of Spanish life. It’s an invitation to experience the soul of Spain through the eyes of a native who has found his way back home.

LONG LIFE: ISO 9706. This certification ensures that paper production recycles more CO2 than it emits, thus reducing the release of CO2 into the atmosphere that causes global warming. In compliance with ISO 9706 standards, the paper we use is acid-free which gives it resistance to light, wear and tear, and durability over time. It can be stored for up to 200 years.

The Photographer’s Vision

“For me, photography is not only a tool to capture images but a passport to connect with people and their surroundings. It’s the perfect excuse to establish a conversation, to meet people and explore unknown places. The final image is just a consequence of this act of exploration”.
