In this Eyeshot 50mm interview, American street photographer Richard Bram talks with Eyeshot about a life in photography that began late and self-taught. He came to the camera at thirty-two, armed, as he puts it, with ignorance and courage, and learned his craft in the darkroom, in the public library, and editing under deadline, where a good edit fills the wastebasket. A founding member of the in-public collective, he argued that street photography was never dead. He speaks about wanting uncertainty over explanation, why the click turns reality into fiction, the ethics of candid work today, being invisible as a state of mind, and the street as a theatre set waiting for its actors. His new limited-edition book with Eyeshot, Restless Eye, gathers four decades of that restless, curious looking into one book.
