“Out of Time” is a visual journey through the Ukrainian towns and suburbs where the Soviet past endures, not as memory, but as presence. Between 2018 and 2021, Taras Bychko photographed places where history refuses to fade: housing blocks, public squares, monuments, and gestures of everyday life that seem to belong to another era. His images reveal a country caught between transformation and inertia, where the ghosts of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s persist in concrete, color, and silence. Yet ”Out of Time” is not nostalgic, it is an act of confrontation. Bychko’s gaze exposes how ideology lingers in the ordinary, how architecture becomes testimony, and how the past continues to inhabit the present. Awarded Second Place in the Eyeshot Open Call 2025, Series Category, the book stands as a haunting reflection on history’s unfinished afterlife.
